ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates has announced plans to channel an additional €15 billion into Greece as part of a collaborative investment strategy between the two nations. This development was disclosed on October 22 during the official visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Athens. The new pledge expands on a €4 billion project initiated in May 2022, with the goal of strengthening economic and strategic bonds.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this expansion will enhance collaboration across sectors deemed strategic and vital for development by both nations. The original framework fostered joint investments in areas of mutual benefit and has already facilitated significant deals in energy and healthcare. Officials highlighted that these outcomes demonstrate the partnership’s potential to convert economic prospects into concrete investments. The additional funding complements and reinforces this existing structure.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled held talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. Their discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology. They also examined regional and international issues, emphasizing the importance of security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis welcomed the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport, underscoring the ongoing growth of bilateral relations.
Strategic forum results in €12.75 billion worth of agreements
The visit coincided with the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum held in Athens, where over €12.75 billion in agreements and commercial alliances were signed between UAE and Greek organizations. These cover sectors such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industry, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. It is important to note that these accords are separate from the €15 billion investment commitment. Mitsotakis participated in the forum alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi expressed confidence that the agreements and the new investment plan reflect a growing trust between the two economies. He stressed that the current focus should be on transforming this momentum into viable projects. Al Zeyoudi described the UAE as a hub for trade, investment, and connectivity, while highlighting Greece’s position as a gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis was also present at the forum.
Greece positioned as a strategic gateway to European markets
The UAE’s decision demonstrates confidence in Greece’s economic resilience and investment potential. The country’s strategic geographic location and its role as a connector between European markets and regional and international sectors are key reasons behind this move. The expanded initiative aims to foster stronger cooperation between investment bodies and companies from both nations, emphasizing innovation, knowledge exchange, and expertise sharing. Its purpose is to unlock new investment pathways.
This announcement is part of a broader effort by the UAE to establish long-term investment collaborations across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany across multiple industries. Additionally, the UAE has increased discussions with other European partners such as Italy. Officials indicated that the Greek initiative is laying the groundwork for a new phase of cooperation that extends beyond mere financial commitments.
